North-North-East — The 16 Directions

The North-North-East (NNE) zone is centred around 22.5° clockwise from true north in a 16-direction system.

At a glance

Look at how natural light, water use and everyday activities relate to this intermediate orientation. This directional division is a planning and interpretive tool; it does not determine the suitability of a room by itself.

For homeowners

Begin with ordinary questions: When does this room receive direct sun? Where does air move? Is the space quiet or busy? Can everyone reach what they need comfortably? A useful Vāstu discussion connects orientation with the actual function of the space.

Ask yourself: How do daylight, orientation, climate and intended use meet in this part of the plan?

For architects and designers

The sector is 22.5° wide and is measured from the verified orientation of the plot or building. Interpretations should distinguish true north from magnetic north, disclose the coordinate basis and include local climate, façade design, service infrastructure, universal access and building-code requirements.

How ETHERS looks at it

ETHERS considers direction alongside the 45 Devatās, the Brahmasthāna and real room use. These traditional interpretations are discussed separately from evidence-based building-performance measures. Public educational guides do not disclose ETHERS proprietary diagnostic sequences.
