Why ETHERS Studies 16 Directions

Why intermediate directions can provide a more detailed way to discuss orientation without ignoring architectural reality.

A simpler way to begin

A thoughtful study of a building starts with the people living or working inside it. We explore its purpose, movement, light, air, privacy and the way each room is used. Traditional Vāstu ideas offer an additional interpretive vocabulary, not a substitute for competent design or safety assessments.

Tradition and interpretation

Traditional Vāstu literature is diverse. Different texts and teaching lineages have variations in diagrams, names and emphasis. The ETHERS approach is our own developing interpretation of these ideas; we identify that distinction rather than implying a single universally accepted reading.

For the design professional

Record the plan revision, survey measurements, true-north basis, local climate, existing structural and services constraints, occupancy needs and any applicable regulatory requirements before considering interventions. As the project evolves, return to documented observations rather than relying on fixed directional slogans.
